How did you decide to join The Academy?

I'd been managing a bakery and decided I'd like a change. I've always loved Make Up and Nails, so researched a few different places where I could train. I live in the Yarra Ranges but travelling to the city was not a problem. My aunt trained as a hairdresser at The Academy in the 70's and she recommended that I look at the Beauty training there. She'd had her own salon as soon as she finished her course, so I took her advice and visited the Academy. The facilities were lovely and I enrolled straight away!

Did the Academy offer anything different from anywhere else?

Yes, at the time I enquired, they were offering a bonus of Facials with the Certificate III, which I was excited about doing.

How did you practice the skills?

Well, I trained 4 days a week, 9am to 4pm, and studied the theory at home. I learnt the practical skills of Waxing, Gel and Acrylic Nails, Eyelash & Eyebrow Treatments, Make Up, Manicuring, Pedicuring, Ear Piercing and Facials firstly on the students, and within a very short time I was practising on people booked in to the Beauty Salon, which was beautiful.

Did you find a job as soon as you graduated?

I had no trouble finding a job. It was part time, 2 days per week, but that suited me because I went on to complete Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy at the Academy, 3 days per week.

Is your employer happy with your experience?

Yes, she is particularly pleased with the way I was trained to give exceptionally professional service to my clients. She is also most impressed with the training I received in recommending services. The salon is very busy and I have no trouble keeping up with the pace as the Academy's salon was always busy too.
