What will you learn?
This prestigious City & Guilds International Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing recognises you as a fully qualified Cutting and Styling Technician in over 80 countries world-wide and is issued by City & Guilds (London). In your core units you will learn how to cut, style and dress women’s hair. You will learn how to create hair up styles including braiding, plaiting, twists, barrel curls and weaving. You will learn to cut men’s hair using many techniques including layering, club cutting, scissor over comb and using clippers.
You will choose from electives such as colouring hair to create a variety of looks, colour correction, scalp massage, designing and creating patterns in hair, creative hair design to create more themed Avant-Garde styles suited to competition and photographic work. Other electives include bridal hairstyling to create rolls, pleats, knots, twists, curls and other effects, using a range of techniques. Other choices include trimming beards & moustaches in line with current and emerging trends, scalp massage, reception, stock display and promoting and selling products and services.
If you already hold an Australian qualification in hairdressing, you will be able to apply to have your existing skills assessed and then undertake training if necessary to achieve this prestigious International Diploma.
Want to work in a salon with creative and experienced hairdressers?
Working in a salon can be very exciting and rewarding! This course concentrates on commercial and creative men’s and ladies hair-cutting. The training is “hands on”, practising with clients in the Academy’s salon, allowing you to study the theory at home.
Want to be self-employed?
You could start or buy your own salon or be employed as a specialised cutter in a hair salon.
Want an internationally recognised qualification?
Upon successful completion of this course students will be awarded a full City & Guilds International Diploma in Hairdressing for Cutting and Styling Technicians which is recognised and respected in over 80 countries worldwide including the cruise ship industry.

Can you give me some course information?
This course covers all aspects of commercial and creative men’s and ladies hairdressing. Upon successful completion of this course students will be awarded a full City & Guilds International Diploma in Hairdressing for Cutting & Styling Technicians. Many of our students study Hairdressing and Beauty or Barbering or together to maximise their work opportunities.
The training is “hands on”, practising with clients in the Academy’s salon, allowing you to study the theory at home. It’s nothing like school. This is exciting news for young and mature age students who hate the idea of “going to school”. Many of our students study hairdressing and beauty or hairdressing and barbering together to maximise their work opportunities.
Requirements: No previous qualifications required
Course Length: 6-12 months
Training Times: The Academy is open for training Monday to Friday: 9:30am to 3:30pm, and Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings 5:30pm to 9:00pm.
We will design a personalised training plan to reflect the study time you have available.
Many of the Academy’s graduates prefer to own their own salons and, as they have gained great salon experience and confidence throughout their training, purchase or open their own salons immediately upon graduating. It is the desire of most of our graduates to eventually become self-employed. The Academy’s training, which promotes independence very early in the course, provides the best possible foundation to achieve their career goal.
